What is the SAHM Foundation?
SAHM is an acronym for stay-at-home mom. The SAHM Foundation is a charitable organization whose mission is to provide direct assistance to veteran families with a stay-at-home mom who are suffering due to COVID-19.
How did SAHM start?
SAHM began when two Marine Corps Captains pledged to donate their stimulus checks to charity. After an extensive search, they failed to find an existing charity that supported this cause, so they decided to start their own.
Why do you think it’s important for active duty military to get involved?
As the President has stated, this is a war. In times of war, the American people expect their military to make sacrifices on their behalf. When the two marines learned that they would be receiving stimulus checks, they both pledged to donate that money to those needing it the most.
Why does your charity target stay-at-home moms? Won’t other groups also be affected?
This virus is proving to have an effect on all Americans, especially lower income families. Those who, before the crisis, had a mother at home caring for young children will be the most negatively impacted by this economic downturn. Most of those families have already gone from a one-income to a zero-income household by no fault of their own. Those fathers and husbands have sacrificed their livelihoods in order to slow the spread and flatten the curve of this virus. The SAHM Foundation has been created to locate, identify, and assist those families.
What is your message to members of the Armed Forces community?
First of all, we are so thankful for the tremendous outpouring of support we have received from across the country. Our message to Marines and to all our brothers and sisters serving in the Armed Forces is to join us in pledging to donate your stimulus check to assist those most in need.
What do you hope to accomplish over the next year or two with this charity?
Our mission at SAHM is to provide immediate relief to veteran families across America. This virus and the resulting recession will not be easily overcome, but together we can help veteran families cope during this unprecedented economic crisis.
How do I know if my family qualifies for assistance from SAHM?
The only necessities are:
-At least one parent is a veteran.
-At least one of the parents' children are living at home.
-At least one child is under 6 years old.
-Be economically impacted by COVID-19.
-The family has decided that they want the mother to stay at home in order to raise their children until they are able to attend grade school full-time.
Anything else is circumstantial and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
